IMG_0111Since 1990, the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) has sponsored National Homeless Memorial Day every year on the first day of winter, the longest night of the year, to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness and to remember those who have died while living without a permanent home. This annual event is commemorated in many cities across the country every December.

This year’s annual Homeless Memorial Day in Philadelphia is scheduled for this Thursday, December 18, because the first day of winter falls on the weekend. The event will take place at Dilworth Park, on the west side of City Hall, at 5:00PM.

Building on the theme of “Remember, Hope, and Heal,” the event features a very powerful ceremonial reading of the names of men and women who died in the past year. Four of our guests who died this year are on that list.
