Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are crucial to our mission of serving Philadelphia's unhoused. By offering your time, you contribute to the wellbeing of those most in need and promote compassion within our community.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Daily Meal Service

Suggested Commitment: One-time, Weekly, or Monthly

Timing: Monday-Thursday 4:00 pm - 6:15 pm, Friday-Sunday 11:00 am - 1:15 pm

What to expect:

Our volunteers typically help seat, serve, and bus our afternoon meal service. We ask that volunteers commit to helping for the entire service from set up to clean up so we can appropriately plan and schedule the workload.

Meal Preparation

Suggested Commitment: Weekly or Bi-Weekly.

Timing: Monday- Thursday 1pm-6pm, Friday and Saturday 9am-1pm

What to expect:

Meal preparation volunteers should expect a longer commitment and must be trained by the kitchen staff. Our normal meal service provides enough food for around 300 people daily, so we strongly recommend volunteers have a moderately experienced cooking background.

Breakfast Service

Suggested Commitment: Once a week

Timing: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

What to expect:

Volunteers will work with the morning coordinator to supervise the breakfast shift and/or help with dishes and cleaning.

Suggested Commitment: Once a week (same weekday preferred)

Timing: Monday 9:00 am - 11:30 am, Wednesday-Thursday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

What to expect:

Volunteers will work together to sort and distribute donated clothing and materials through our Marie’s Closet storefront.

What past volunteers have said about their time with St. Francis Inn

Anna

“The human condition drives us to be in community with one another. St Francis Inn taught me divine and radical kinship.”

Gordon

“It is one of the few places that I have experienced that practices acceptance without judgment, love without expectation. It is a place where the question- “who is my neighbor?”- is answered in a hundred novel ways every day.”
