Fr. Bob Struzynski, OFM, a former team member and one of the early founders of this ministry died today after a recent illness at the age of 78. He was a friar for 55 years, and spent eight years at St. Francis Inn. He arrived in 1978 and joined Roderic Petrie, OFM and Emmet Murphy, OFM to start what we call today St. Francis Inn Ministries.

He wrote an essay in 2008 about his life as a friar. This is what he said about his experience in Philadelphia: “Those were wonderful days. They were the days when “intentional communities” were popping up in the Province, and we formed such a community, developing our own life plan. We lived very simply from whatever donations we received and, as one of our principles stated, “we did not want to serve the poor but be poor and serve our brothers and sisters.” All of us went out and begged for food to keep the inn going and many wonderful stories developed1486834_10151787627610009_269142793_n
